Candidates
Someone who is bothered by submental fullness or a “double chin” may be a good candidate for KYBELLA®. It is important the patient is in good health and has realistic expectations about the treatment.
Whether someone is a good candidate for KYBELLA® will all depend on their medical history and medical conditions.
Someone may not be a good candidate for KYBELLA® if they:
- Have had or are planning on having surgery on the face, chin, or neck
- Have had cosmetic treatments on the neck
- Have had or are having trouble swallowing
- Are having bleeding problems
- Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant
- Are breastfeeding or are planning on breastfeeding
The Consultation
During your consultation, Dr. Persky will evaluate the area beneath your chin and discuss your goals. Depending on your previous medical history and severity of submental fullness, he will help you decide if KYBELLA® is right for you. Alternative treatments include surgical neck liposuction, Ultherapy®, and/or Venus Freeze™. Dr. Persky will review before and after photographs of patients who have had these treatments. It is important to let your doctor know if you are taking any prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, or herbal supplements.

KYBELLA® Procedure
In Encino, CA
KYBELLA® is a quick procedure performed in the office. Dr. Persky offers his patients local anesthetic if they wish before the treatment. Multiple injections are made strategically throughout the submental area (under your chin.) KYBELLA® works by breaking down and absorbing the fat cells. Once the fat is destroyed, it is eliminated permanently and naturally by the lymphatic system. The number of treatment sessions varies depending on the patient’s anatomy and the amount of submental fat present. Typically, most patients will undergo two to four KYBELLA® treatments, which are spaced one month apart.
Recovery
Most patients can return to work immediately following treatment. Swelling and bruising are normal, but these symptoms will subside in a few days. Other side effects may include pain, numbness, redness, and hardness around the treatment area. Although rare, more serious side effects can include trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw, which is why it is essential to have your treatment performed by an Encino board-certified expert injecting physician with knowledge of the complex facial anatomy.
Results
